What services do you offer?
First/intake evaluations
First evaluations are consultations. They last 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your clinical needs. If the first visit lasts 90 minutes, it can be scheduled on the same day or as two 45-minute visits on separate days. I recognize that symptoms do not happen in a vacuum. I will take a detailed history to understand who you are as a whole person, including your background, experiences, strengths, and goals.
I will provide my thoughts about symptoms and diagnoses. You may already have a sense of the treatment you want or you may be open to recommendations. I will explain my thinking about different treatments so that we can make decisions together.
Medication
I have extensive experience prescribing medications for patients at different points of their recovery, including during symptom exacerbations and periods of wellness and stability. I appreciate that prescribing is not just about managing symptoms. Medication goals can be nuanced and vary at different times, depending on if symptoms are flaring, your side effects, and long-term goals and values.
I see patients in my practice who have different feelings about medications. Some have never taken medications, some prefer to address their symptoms with non-medication strategies, while others are curious about medications. I also understand that people often have mixed feelings about medications.
I will work with you to figure out whether there is value in trying or adjusting medications. I can also work with you to simplify your medications. I prescribe in an evidence-based way, with the least amount of medication needed to manage symptoms.
Psychotherapy
I see patients who are interested in only psychotherapy, or a combination of medications and psychotherapy. I offer insight-oriented therapy in a psychoanalytic frame. This type of therapy can help you understand how past experiences shape current behaviors, emotions, and relationships.
Whereas medications target neurochemical imbalances driving symptoms, psychotherapy treats symptoms by uncovering deeper, formative experiences that have led to the development of such symptoms and how you view yourself and the world.
Therapy sessions can happen once or multiple times per week. I aim for these sessions to be supportive and centered on you.
Do you take insurance?
I do not participate in insurance networks. Insurance companies restrict the length and frequency of visits and require the release of private clinical information as part of the reimbursement process.
While I do not work directly with insurance, patients with PPO plans often have out-of-network benefits and can be partially reimbursed for care. Many PPO plans reimburse 60–80% of their allowed amount once the out-of-network deductible is met.
I can provide you with a billing statement you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.
You can refer to my Out of Network Reimbursement Guide if you are calling your health insurance to ask about your benefits.
